Eagle Alloy, Inc. Announces Changes to Lead Times
MUSKEGON — May 24, 2011 — Jeff Cook, Sales Manager at Eagle Alloy, Inc. announced today that we have temporarily changed our lead time for rough castings from 5 weeks to 7 weeks. Our lead time for machined castings will change from 8 weeks to 10 weeks. We have been working 3 shifts, 6 days/week for the last three months to try to service our customers with the same 5 week lead time that we are known for but we are continuing to fall behind due to our production staffing level. We are implementing adjustments that will allow us to resume regular lead times very soon.
The main reason for the adjustment is our refusal to add employees without properly training them on the quality of workmanship and level of safety we require here at Eagle Alloy. Qualified applicants are plentiful but adding employees the proper way takes time and at present we cannot keep up with the levels of new and existing work intake we are experiencing. We hope to be at proper employment levels by mid-summer.
Our current facility capacity utilization is only 79% using a 5-day work week so we can continue to accept new projects without overselling our capacity. We will continue to be very careful about that. We take great pride in our reputation for on-time delivery.
Long-term, we are evaluating a plan that would increase our facility capacity by 50% through expansion of our facility and adding core, mold and pouring equipment as well as expanding pattern storage and a shell-sand reclamation facility.
Eagle Alloy finds itself in a position we haven't been in in quite some time, but as in past occasions we will manage our growth so as to avoid inconveniencing our customers and so that we can continue to accept new projects with confidence. This is a temporary adjustment, and we will shorten our lead times very soon.
